Smedbo wanted to seize control of the hundreds of thousands of products in its warehouse. Orango was tasked with the challenge of implementing advanced warehouse and inventory management features in the ERP system Microsoft Dynamics NAV and with producing a compatible handheld scanner solution. The result was Mobile WMS by Tasklet Factory and a jackpot for the first spot-check inventory.
Smedbo develops and markets bathroom accessories and decorative fittings under the brand names Smedbo and Beslagsboden. The products are sold in some 40 counties, and the company is the market leader in Scandinavia. Smedbo, headquartered in Helsingborg, Sweden, was founded in 1967 and has 65 employees in total across the group.
Smedbo has been working with Orango since 2003 and engaged Orango consultants to implement and manage Microsoft Dynamics NAV on an ongoing basis.
“It felt natural that Orango would be the one to handle the implementation of our new warehouse management system. Orango understands our company and how we work, and we have had a very successful partnership so far. Orango’s consultants are always there for us and are also very attentive to our requests,” says Magnus Åhlin, CFO of Smedbo.
In the past, Smedbo used two different systems for warehouse and inventory management. This meant when something was done in one system, the updates were not immediately reflected in the other system, which resulted in a lack of control of the inventory.
“Our inventory is a big post on the balance sheet and is something we want to be in full control of, of course,” says Åhlin.
Smedbo searched the market to find a good handheld scanner solution but could not find what it was looking for and was about to give up.
“All the systems we looked at seemed inflexible, and managing them would often be complicated and there would be a lot more tasks involved than we have today. In some cases, it felt like they were using handheld solutions because it was cool, not because it was efficient,” explains Åhlin.
Smedbo wanted to gain full control of its inventory, but not at the cost of more cumbersome and complicated processes. Managing the flow should not take longer than it already did, and Smedbo also wanted its staff to be able to manage everything from a handheld device.
The solution should provide full control, minimize picking errors, be more efficient and easier to manage, and preferably also be already available on the market. Smedbo did not want to have to start from scratch and add years to the project by developing its own solution.
Orango was tasked with the challenge of implementing advanced warehouse and inventory management features in Microsoft Dynamics NAV and with producing a handheld scanner solution that was compatible with the system and could fulfill all of Smedbo’s needs – a system developed for modern trading companies, in other words.
Orango implemented an advanced inventory and warehouse management solution with guided product entry and order picking, as well as the handheld scanner solution Mobile WMS from Tasklet Factory.
Mobile WMS is a handheld logistics solution that is directly compatible with the standard features in the Microsoft Dynamics 365 suite. This makes it quick to install and easy to customize flows based on different needs. When an item is registered, it is validated though a built-in barcode scanner that prevents the user from making mistakes.
“Mobile WMS provides the warehouse workers with the features and information they need. This makes it easier for them to make the right decisions, which in turn increases efficiency and reduces the number of errors,” explains Lisa Billgren, business consultant for Microsoft Dynamics NAV at Orango.
“We knew it was a good fit for us as soon as we had the first demonstration of Tasklet Factory Mobile WMS. The interface was modern and elegant and came with features that no other solution could offer at the time. We also considered it a big advantage that the solution is built for Microsoft Dynamics, since it meant we did not have to connect different systems,” says Åhlin.
The accountants’ spot-check inventory was 100% accurate, which has never happened before – testimony to the fact that we are now in full control of our inventory and warehouse management processes.
The Tasklet solution has given Smedbo full control of the hundreds of thousands of products in its inventory. The warehouse staff can manage the whole job process via the handheld scanner and can process more orders per unit of time with much higher delivery dependability than before.
“At the first closure of accounts after the implementation, the accountants’ spot-check inventory was 100% accurate, which has never happened before – a testimony to the fact that we are now in full control of our inventory and warehouse management processes.”
